The Revd James Hassell, in his memoirs, In Old Australia, writes, "One of my uncles was James Hassell (1802-1862), who in 1829 acquired 1280 acres of land around the junction of the Bolong River, Mianga Creek, Phils River and Reedy Creek.
The settlement was established and quarters erected to house the assigned convicts. A stone cottage homestead for the overseer was erected about a quarter of a mile from the convict settlement in 1833. He named the station Bolong."

It is known today as Fullerton Station.
